Hello stranger!
I can’t believe it’s been 2 years since my last “official” blog post, much less 5 years since I’d been blogging regularly for my photography business.
Though it may be hard to believe, there was a point in my life when I was religiously blogging everyday; not just as a wedding photographer, but also as a dad-to-be, or a twenty-something year old trying to find his path in this chaotic world, and even an emo teen who took life way too seriously.
As a life-long writer, this was the one part of the job that I enjoyed the most. But as our wedding photography business grew (good) alongside the attention of our young family (great), I found less and less time to write, amidst the daily grind of an unforgiving & demanding schedule (bad).
Of course, the pandemic changed all that (very, very, very bad).
Thankfully for all of us (and my liver), we were back to work within a year, and these were the CRAZIEST, BUSIEST years we’d ever experienced in our careers.
So just a few quick updates since 2020:
- My wife started her own wedding photography brand, which you can check out at https://heykaris.com. As my co-shooter of over 12 years, she was more than ready to make a name for herself in this industry. She has since been published, won awards, and making a HUGE splash in an incredible way – and we couldn’t be more proud.
- I started teaching sales & marketing to photographers. Wanna take a peek? You can check that out here: https://benlau.com/fbgroup.
- I started a podcast with our good friends Jenn & Ro, who are also another husband & wife wedding photography team here in NJ. You can listen to us on Spotify [HERE].
- I hosted my first conference (The Focused AF Summit), right here in NJ. Although we’re taking a break in 2025, we hope to be back better than ever in 2026!
Soooooo, now that things are back to “normal-ish” these days, we find ourselves here…again.
At the time of this writing, I have a backlog of 5 years that have yet to see the light of day. With an average of 40-45 weddings that I photograph every year, that’s almost 200+ weddings and portfolio that the internet has never been seen before. That’s over 200+ amazing wedding stories that have been hiding in my hard drives these past 5 years; and you know what? It’s finally time to right that wrong.
In any case, if you made it this far – I’m so incredibly glad that you’re still here.
And to be quite honest, it feels amazing to be back.
On that note, I hope you’ll enjoy these stories as much as I enjoyed documenting & sharing them!
Ben
