As a person who studied the english language in college (so that I could one day have unemployable skills beyond a mildly useful vocabulary), it’s a little secret that metaphors are sorta kinda my jam. This appreciation did not escape me during Katie & Joe’s engagement session, as I was riding on a ferry towards a Civil War-era prison on Governor’s Island. Our current circumstances did not escape Katie either, however it still remained to be seen who the ball-and-chain was in our little metaphor :). Katie’s previous life as a tour guide/Park Ranger on the island gave us unbridled access to many of the awesome features of Governor’s Island; rooftops, cellars, golf carts and not to mention, pre-season access to the island itself. Not only did we get to photograph these two high school sweethearts with one of the BEST views of the NYC skyline that I’ve ever seen, we started this engagement session adventure with one of the most amazing breakfast items of all times: donuts sprinkled with fruity pebbles. What kinda sorcery is this, and how am I only discovering this now?!
