This pandemic is, without a doubt, one of the worst tragedies we’ve all experienced in our lifetimes. But even so, I remind myself to count my blessings every day; there’s food in my stomach, a roof over my head, and my loved ones are (for the most part) safe and healthy during these crazy, crazy times. By all accounts, our cups have runneth over and we’re so incredibly grateful for that.
This pandemic has also profoundly changed the way our couples host their weddings, and it’s indirectly affected the way we document them. And you know what? I don’t necessarily think this is a bad thing. When you take away the packed dance floors, the large bridal parties, the fireworks, and 80% of the guest list, what do you have?
A wedding.
Yes, it’s still a wedding – that part has not changed. But now, because of the pandemic, our couples are finding themselves hosting intimate celebrations with some of the most super-duper important people in their lives. And as documentary wedding photographers, we think that’s kinda cool :).
Why? Grandma gets a few more hugs. The family dog gets a few more kisses. The couples get a few more moments alone to themselves. Now that the pressure of a typical wedding day itinerary is gone, we can savor every wonderful moment of this beautiful day.
Like many others, Rachel & Matt’s original wedding plans were dashed due to COVID (and their Plan B was rained out – so technically, this backyard wedding was their Plan C). With only a few weeks to plan, and bucket-loads of elbow grease, these families pulled together and threw one of the finest backyard weddings I’ve seen during these times :). We’re so honored to document part 1 of these celebrations, and look forward to documenting part 2 of their celebrations next year!
