It’s been an emotional roller coaster ride for us here at Ben Lau Photography these past few months; since our second Lil Monster was born, our humble abode has been bursting at the seams. It was finally time for us to move. After an exhausting 7 months of house-hunting, we finally found a place where we could possibly hang our hats for the very foreseeable future: a quaint little colonial on a quiet suburban street with a sizable backyard and windows galore. It was perfect, in every sense of the word. We were due to close last Friday, but here we are again on Monday morning – back on a house-hunting mission that had plagued us for the past 7 months.
Why am I telling you this?
Michele & Bryan’s wedding was the perfect wedding for us to post this Monday, especially with everything we’ve experienced this past week. Their simple and fun wedding in Piermont, NY was substantially overshadowed by a downpour of absolutely biblical proportions. I mean, there’s rain…and then there are the cats, dogs (goats and cows) that were falling out of the sky on their wedding day. I reassured the bride that everything was going to be okay, which was partly my professional assessment, and partly my own wedding photography version of proper bedside manner on a wedding day. One way or another, I was tasked with the honor of creating beautiful images for them. And it was going to take a little bit more than a torrential downpour to stop me from delivering on that promise.
And then this happened:
No rain, no rainbows, folks.
The intermittent drizzle returned later that afternoon, but I’m still convinced that everything worked out for the better. There is no such thing as perfect weather, perfect rainbows or the perfect bloom. A rose is not a rose without its thorns, and a rainbow is not a rainbow without its rain. Over time, I’ve learned to appreciate these imperfections that surround us; because its in their imperfections that make them all undeniably “perfect”. So in the end, Michele & Bryan got themselves the perfect wedding day. As for me & Karis, we’re going to find the most perfect home in the most perfect way, sooner or later :).
You know what’s genius? Having two wedding dresses on your wedding day is genius…
…especially when you know it’s going to rain!
