Most wedding photographers will tell you: it’s not everyday you get a bride who’s willing to frolic on the grass in front of strangers, in one of the most flowy wedding dresses the western hemisphere has ever seen. But then again, it’s not everyday you get a bride like Vy. Paired with Charlie, nearly her polar opposite in every way imaginable, it was an absolute delight to document their week-long wedding festivities. Their celebration started with several traditional Vietnamese wedding formalities, complete with symbolic treats, a tea ceremony, and one delicious roast pig (you can’t have a wedding without one!). The second leg of the festivities brought us to Queens Botanical Garden, where we found ourselves surrounded by piles of colorful leaves, Halloween decor and a bench full of elderly Asian ladies who were desperately trying to stifle their giggling (I’ve endearingly named them Florence, Mildred, Edith and Marjorie – I sincerely hope I’ll see them again). We concluded their celebration atop the Terrace on the Park, with views overlooking Citifield and NYC – quite possibly the best view in all of Queens. We had so much fun documenting this wedding, and everything was just perfect: from their beautiful portrait session, to all of the moments in between. We couldn’t have asked for a more awesome couple :).
