Who plans a wedding in 6 weeks? These folks do :). With the coronavirus wedding in full swing this past fall, most couples have been rescheduling and delaying their wedding plans. Gloriann & Jason on the other hand, saw this opportunity to dive headfirst towards the opposite direction (with proper health & safety precautions, of course). With everyone’s availability wide open, Gloriann & Jason were able to book their favorite people and plan the wedding of their dreams at Bear Brook Valley!

Some weddings are about the venue.

Some weddings are about the city.

This one was both.

Jennifer and Joe got ready at the InterContinental New York Barclay, which felt a little nostalgic because it’s the same hotel where we photographed their engagement session. The only difference? Last time it rained. This time, July decided to give us sunshine and temperatures that felt more like September. I’ll take it.

Jennifer had one request: “I want New York City to be part of the story.”

So that’s exactly what we did.

Classic architecture. Skyline views. A little walking. A lot of laughing. We chased the sunset along the Hudson River, and somehow ended the night with ice cream. (Huge shout out to Andy at Current by @thepiersixtycollection for making that happen. Totally unnecessary, completely appreciated, and exactly the kind of hospitality that makes a wedding unforgettable.)

The wedding party brought all the color with a rainbow of soft pastels, the traditional lion dance brought incredible energy to the reception, and my favorite part of the day was watching Joe’s two children woven into every part of the celebration. You could tell this wasn’t just a wedding—it was a family becoming even more of a family.

Something I’d shout from the rooftops if people wouldn’t look at me weird? That sometimes a stroll through the city is the only engagement session location planning we have to do.

We only need a starting point and before you know it, we have great memories and incredible photos that capture the essence of our time spent together.

Kelly + Justin’s engagement session is the perfect example.

Don’t get me wrong, sometimes we have to make a plan, we only have so much time during a session. But sometimes “no plan” works… but we can figure that out together. A comfortable, at ease couple is way more important than finding the perfect photo spot.

I have a question.

How many of you still fit into your wedding clothes a year later? 😂

Natasha and Cary do.

In fact, they put them back on to celebrate their first anniversary. Let’s just say their wedding day got away from them, so they decided to press pause a year later and make the time for themselves.

I kind of love that.

This was also my first time at The Grand in Totowa, and I have no idea how I managed to miss this place all these years. Every time I turned a corner, there was another little nook that fit exactly how I like to shoot. Which was perfect, because it was approximately 1,000 degrees outside. We gave the outdoors our best effort…for about five minutes.

Natasha changed into both a classic white dress and a red qipao, they brought ceremonial lions, and we pretty much explored every inch of the venue.

Huge thanks to Sal for making everything happen behind the scenes. He even joined us for Chinese egg tarts and a little soju afterward. Not a bad way to end the day.

Happy anniversary, you two. Thanks for letting me help you celebrate it in style.
