[Wedding] Helen & Prad – Central Park in New York, NY

So Helen & Prad probably have one of the coolest jobs in the universe: they design shoes for a living! These two met at work, and somewhere between their deep conversations about insoles and revolutionary shoe-fastening systems, Helen asked Prad on a date (this is all conjecture btw). Prad enthusiastically agreed to this proposition, and the rest was history (also conjecture, likely). Helen & Prad have been dating on opposite sides of the pond for at least two years now (with Prad on the West Coast and Helen back in the UK), and NYC just seemed like the perfect meeting point between the two to get married (100% truth!). Under the shelter of the Ladies Pavilion in Central Park, these two made a solemn oath to be the perfect pair for the rest of their lives.

[Wedding] Sindy & Ryan – West Hills Country Club in Middletown, NY

Sindy & Ryan’s West Hills Country Club wedding brought together some of my favorite people, favorite colleagues, favorite foods, and most importantly, references to one of my favorite films of all time: Star Wars. When I first noticed the special cufflinks on all the men (and let’s not forget about the groom’s socks!), the inner nerd in me was basically somersaulting with joy. At first, it struck me as mildly odd that all their characters of choice happened to be on the dark side of “The Force”. It was a bit unorthodox, to say the least. But to their credit, Sith Lords are all pretty badass, and I would be the first to confess that there are currently two Stormtrooper figurines next to my computer at this very moment. But for the uninitiated, followers of the light side of the force are always taught to stay neutral, to be in control of their emotions, which is the key to maintaining peace. Followers of the dark side on the other hand, adhere to an entirely different set of rules, where they are encouraged to be consumed by their emotions, and allow their emotions to dictate their actions. By my estimation (and possibly Ryan’s as well), there is nothing inherently evil about drifting off into the dark side, depending on what the endgame is. On one hand, one could fall hopelessly in love with the that one special person in the entire galaxy. And on the other hand, you could also obliterate an entire planet. Why Ryan truly prefers the dark side we may never know, but I have good reason to believe that Ryan is more the former kind than the latter kind :).

After celebrating their Cambodian Wedding Ceremony only 24 hours before, these two were ready to rock-and-roll when we arrived at their respective suites that morning. We could’ve have asked for a more amazing couple to spend our weekend with, and we’re just so honored and thrilled to have been a part of the festivities. We wish these two lovebirds a lifetime of love, laughter and happiness – and may the force be with these two!

[Wedding] Sindy & Ryan – Cambodian Wedding Ceremony in Danbury, CT

Over the years, we’ve been privileged to document all kinds of wedding ceremonies spanning a wide spectrum of various religions, traditions and cultures. It’s always been my firm belief that given the opportunity, all the individuals, places and things on the other side of my camera have a unique story to share. My only role at that given moment, is to simply be present, and document those stories as they unravel before my very eyes.

Part 1 (of 2) of Sindy & Ryan’s family started at her family’s home in Danbury, CT, where the entire neighborhood came together to celebrate this momentous milestone of one of their very own. Their story is one rooted in tradition, filial piety, and boundless gratitude and affection for their family and friends. Sindy & Ryan’s Cambodian wedding featured not one, but three traditional ceremonies, which involved music, performances, prayer to go along with some of the most colorful wardrobe changes I’ve ever had the opportunity to photograph. We only hope that our images did justice to such a wonderful, gorgeous day!

[Engagement] Kathleen & Chris – Hoboken, NJ

When one thinks of Hoboken engagement sessions, the first thought is usually the Hoboken waterfront: both uptown and downtown views of the Manhattan skyline are equally spectacular, which generally makes for some exceptionally gorgeous photos. But here’s the thing: Kathleen & Chris would also likely be photographing their wedding day photos along the Hoboken waterfront – so what’s a couple to do? As we racked our brains for a bit of time, until it dawned upon me – “Do you have access to your rooftop?” I remember asking them. “I mean, how have we not thought of this?” With a few quick pushes of the (elevator) button, we made our way to their surprisingly neat/orderly rooftop (probably the most safest and cleanest one I’ve ever encountered) and kicked off our session there. Shooting off the beaten path in/around Hoboken has always been on a bucket list of mine, and I was so thrilled that Kathleen & Chris were on 100% on board. As we wandered around the pristine cobblestone streets (which will now be my new super-secret shooting spot!), I got to hear about how these two college sweethearts fell in love, and found themselves eventually hanging their hats in one of the coolest neighborhoods in all of Hoboken. Any neighborhood within walking distance to a German biergarten is A+ in my book!

[Engagement] Jaclyn & Dylan – New York, NY

It’s not every day that two love birds agree to wake up at sunrise to spend their morning with yours truly, but here we were – being silly among ourselves along the empty walkways of the High Line Park. Along the way, Jaclyn & Dylan shared a slice of their life with me, from that one fateful night they shared a few drinks together and took the long way home on their first night out together, to one helluva proposal story that took place on the other side of the world (way to make all of us look bad, Dylan!). Throughout this engagement session along Manhattan’s West Side, they took me to all their favorite spots in their old stomping grounds – from coffee shops, to ginormous sandwiches, we did it all. Bonus points to us for coming upon this cute, little, covered scooter. You best believe we used it for their engagement photos!
