It was barely sunrise when we arrived in Flushing that morning. Unaccustomed to the absence of local traffic, we quickly wove in and out of streets that were mostly empty; with the exception of the few neighborhood bakers who were working tirelessly behind the foggy windows of their unassuming storefronts. 15 stories above the scrumptious aromas of roasted arabica beans and fresh pastries was our bride Sylvia, who was quietly getting ready inside the bridal suite of the Sheraton for one of the biggest days of her life.
