When Dani and Spencer picked an early April wedding, I think we were all picturing the same thing: cherry blossoms around Liberty State Park, a little spring sunshine, and an excuse to spend as much time outside as possible. Instead, it rained. The cherry blossoms never made an appearance, and neither did most of our outdoor portrait plans.
Thankfully, Maritime Parc is one of the few venues where bad weather doesn’t feel like a compromise. The giant windows, bright interiors, and clean architecture do a lot of the heavy lifting. I’ve always loved photographing there because it gives me a clean slate. The weather changed the plan, but it didn’t change the day.
Everything else unfolded exactly as it should have. A beautiful Jewish ceremony. A reception that quickly traded black-tie elegance for the wonderfully controlled chaos of the hora. Somewhere in the middle, Spencer and I discovered we’re both into mechanical watches. He’s just getting into the hobby. My condolences to his wallet.
Then, right as we were wrapping up, the rain finally stopped. We slipped outside for one last portrait when fireworks suddenly started exploding over the harbor. They weren’t part of the wedding. They weren’t even for this side of the parking lot. But after spending the entire day adjusting to Plan B, it felt like the universe throwing Dani and Spencer one last little win before the night was over.
