The sunrise was barely visible behind the dark menacing clouds of Winter Storm Hercules looming overhead, as we trudged through the snow drifts outside of LaGuardia Airport with our luggage and camera gear in tow. Luckily for us, by the time we arrived inside the terminal, we still had our camera gear and some semblance of dignity intact. At that point, it didn’t matter that we were soaked from the knees down, or that Delta had cancelled thousands of flights already that morning; what mattered most was that our flight appeared to be one of the lucky few who were departing on time that morning.
Or so we thought.
We found ourselves camped out by the flight schedules that morning, nervously watching all the flights switch from “Delayed” to “Cancelled”. Even our flight was eventually delayed, no less than three times. The wedding planners in Florida (who were AMAZING, by the way) were also anxiously checking the flights schedules and exploring every possible contingency should our flight ever meet its unfortunate demise. We even considered swimming down to Miami if we had to.
Luckily, we ended up not having to swim to Miami (Karis and I are terrible swimmers anyway – we’d never make it out of the Hudson River, in the freezing cold, no less.). We were one of the last flights to leave that morning, before LaGuardia effectively shut down for the following two weeks. But all of this wouldn’t matter. We eventually made it down to Miami in one piece, with time to spare.
Julia and Jeff started their day at the Sonesta Hotel in Coconut Grove, with their ceremony and reception held at the Red Fish Grill.
