Aside from the colorful lights, whimsical sounds and the scent of fresh zeppoles, there are many other things that would strike the fancy of an almost-two year old visiting your typical NJ carnival. For one, everything is just so gigantic to an almost-two year old: the towering ferris wheel and its neighboring 5 story-tall swing carousel, just to name a few. And because I’m your typical fun-sucker, I believe carnivals offer a great opportunity to teach some important lessons to the kids. For starters, calling it a “mandatory donation” of $3 for admission won’t make people feel more charitable – it just sounds plain silly, if you ask me. But the most important life lesson an almost-two year old can learn at a carnival is that you’ll always be a dollar short, a day late or a few inches too short to attain your life’s dreams (for that moment anyway). As Lil Monster’s grandpa always taught me, when you don’t have enough for a lobster feast, a crab feast ain’t half bad either. There’s always something for everyone.
