Where do you go when your photographer is petrified of heights? Up the tallest mountain you can find, of course! Naturally, Emily & Andrew didn’t have a clue about my acrophobia prior to our ascent to the beautiful peaks of Mohonk Mountain. Though I’ve visited Mohonk Mountain on several occasions, I’ve stayed mainly on the beaten path near the resort; our little hiking adventure with Emily & Andrew was a whole ‘nother flavor of Mohonk Mountain I was just much too eager to take on, and I’m thrilled that I did. After 45 minutes to hiking through the trails (admittedly, we did take the “scenic” route), we found ourselves facing a sheer cliff face no less than 500 feet literally STRAIGHT UP.
“We’re already committed, let’s do this!” I encouraged my fellow hikers as I started packing my camera gear away. But of course, Emily & Andrew are a sensible lot, and suggested we take another scenic route that didn’t require the skill and spryness of a mountain goat (thereby risking injury to their beloved photographer, or worse – all the doodads in his camera bag).
We reached the top right around sunset, and it was one of the most beautiful landscapes I’d ever seen. Throw in two lovebirds who’ve been together since the beginning of time, and you’ve got yourself one of my favorite engagement sessions this year.
