This wedding was particularly special to me for many, many reasons. For starters, I knew I wanted to shoot this wedding from the moment I met Kait & Pat; not because of their awesome-ramas wedding venue (I mean, I practically live at West Hills Country Club at this point), but because Kait & Pat are not the type of folks who are naturally comfortable in front of a camera (challenge totally accepted!). But even more importantly, I knew they both had so much love to give to everyone around them, which typically lends an incredible amount of power to any image, especially with the right photographer behind the camera. This past summer, I was blessed with this incredible opportunity to be just that (the right photographer!).
Upon delivery of their wedding images shortly thereafter, I was reminded once again of the power and responsibility of what we do as wedding photographers. We learned that Kait’s grandmother had passed away shortly after the wedding, and that these images were instrumental in their process of grieving and healing.
When it comes to photographing a wedding day, the portraits of the bride are important – that much is indisputable. But what is also important are the moments between those formal shutter clicks, the moments between the moments, and the relationships between all the subjects occupying my frame. Every face is important, every connection has a story, and it’s my responsibility as their wedding photographer to capture all of that in one shutter click. Upon receiving this devastating news from Kait, I was absolutely honored, and humbled, that I was able to provide these images to Kait, Pat, and their families. They are the reason, and the inspiration, for why we do what we do everyday.
